Mercado municipal de Santa Cruz de La Palma

The municipal food market of Santa Cruz de La Palma stands on Avenida El Puente, on the site of the former hospital and house of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, founded in 1514. The present building was designed in 1886 by the local master Felipe de Paz Pérez along classical lines. Inside, island produce is sold: dried fruit, seasonal fruit and vegetables, pulses and cereals, mojos, sweets, cheeses and wines of the La Palma designation of origin.

The farmers market of Puntagorda has been running since 2002 in the north-west of La Palma, about two kilometres from the village centre and inside the El Fayal pine forest. Growers from the surrounding district sell directly here: fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, honey, wine, baked goods and mojo sauces, a good share of it certified organic. Around twenty craft makers have stands as well. The site covers some 1,680 square metres between a covered hall and an open-air area.

The building, from the middle of the nineteenth century, was listed as a Site of Cultural Interest in 2005 and now houses more than forty stalls combining traditional shopping with contemporary food offerings.
