Mercado Agrícola y Artesanal de Vega de San Mateo
Vega de San Mateo hosts the largest direct sales point for Gran Canaria's farmers, right in the middle of the town and a few metres from the historic centre. The grounds cover around 10,000 square metres across two halls plus an outdoor area of tents. Stalls bring together cheese, honey, fruit, vegetables, medicinal plants, wines, liqueurs, preserves and mojo sauces alongside crafts, textiles and cut flowers.
The market traces its origin to 1890, when the local council agreed to set up a fair and market square on the village's main street. The farmers' market itself began in 1980 inside the livestock fair grounds, at the request of the growers and stockbreeders, who wanted to sell without middlemen. The present halls were inaugurated in late 1983, and the site has since become the economic engine of the municipality.
The grounds add up to some 10,000 square metres: one hall of 1,900 square metres for farm and livestock produce, with cold storage in the basement, and another of 1,100 square metres given over to crafts and non-food goods. Tents in the outdoor area carry handicrafts, textiles and prepared food such as roast pineapple, and live music is a regular fixture. Visitors find fresh cheese, honey, eggs, nuts, breads and pastries, wines, liqueurs, mead, mojo sauces and preserves, plus plants and cut flowers. The site has its own parking.

The market's own website describes the building as semi-abandoned, with a single fruit stall still working out of the 18 it once housed.
