Mercado del Agricultor de La Guancha
Right beside the main road at kilometre 49 of the TF 5, the La Guancha farmers market gathers on weekend mornings around produce from the northern midlands. Fruit, vegetables and small batch preserves come from growers in the Ycoden Daute district, a stretch of vineyards and market gardens on the green side of the island. Easy to pull into if you are driving the north coast and want to fill a basket at source.

Inside you find stalls of fruit and vegetables, fish landed on the nearby coast, butchers, cheesemongers and counters of Canarian honey and mojo sauces, alongside food bars run by young local traders. A recent refurbishment modernised the building without erasing its old recova character.

The Mercado Municipal of Puerto de la Cruz fills a covered building on Avenida Blas PƩrez GonzƔlez, a few minutes on foot from the old town and the fishing harbour. The 1891 building is the finest piece of iron architecture on Gran Canaria: it was put up by technicians from the French firm linked to Gustave Eiffel, with cast iron columns, glazed roofing and an octagonal dome over the centre. Inside, fish, meat, fruit and vegetable stalls sit alongside tapas counters and small restaurants.

It fills up on weekend mornings with vegetables, fruit, wine, cheese, honey, gofio, meat, fish and bread from the Tacoronte Acentejo district. There is a children's play area on site, and the market holds Biosphere Sustainable certification.

The hall is covered, with a rest area, a children's play zone, a cafeteria with terrace and parking.
