Playa Puerto Espindola
A black sand beach beside the fishing and leisure harbour of Puerto Espindola, on the coast of San Andrés y Sauces in the north-east of La Palma. The settlement served for centuries as the commercial port of the municipality. There is parking nearby, and divers and snorkellers use the beach as their entry point to the water beside the breakwater. The Charco Azul pools lie a short walk away.
The beach at Puerto Espindola opens beside the fishing and leisure harbour of the same name, on the coast of San Andrés y Sauces. The settlement keeps its working seafaring character and served for centuries as the commercial port of the municipality, the point from which local sugar was shipped out. The sand is black and the shore is sheltered by the breakwater.
Divers and snorkellers use the beach for briefing and as their entry to the water: the shallow ground beside the submerged dyke shelters a good deal of marine life, and the drop-off nearby holds arches, caves and chimneys. It is a well established spot for night dives as well. There is parking close by, and the natural pools of Charco Azul are a short distance along the coast.
