La Palma

They call it "the beautiful island", and you feel it the moment you arrive: green, steep and full of ravines. At its heart lies the Caldera de Taburiente, a vast amphitheatre of mountains and Canary pines; on its summit, the Roque de los Muchachos observatory, under some of the cleanest skies on the planet (it's a Starlight Reserve). In 2021 the Tajogaite volcano reminded everyone that the island is still being born, and today that lava flow is already part of the landscape. From the rainy north to the salt pans of Fuencaliente, La Palma is for walking slowly and looking up. Here you'll find its viewpoints, trails, stargazing spots and places to see.
