La Palma

They call it "the beautiful island", and you feel it the moment you arrive: green, steep and full of ravines. At its heart lies the Caldera de Taburiente, a vast amphitheatre of mountains and Canary pines; on its summit, the Roque de los Muchachos observatory, under some of the cleanest skies on the planet (it's a Starlight Reserve). In 2021 the Tajogaite volcano reminded everyone that the island is still being born, and today that lava flow is already part of the landscape.
