The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC), with a 10.4-metre primary mirror, is one of the world's largest optical telescopes and the jewel of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Since it began operating it has contributed to top-level astronomical discoveries.
It is part of the observatory's guided visits and its huge dome is an iconic image of the La Palma summit. Booking through authorised operators is required.
