Casa Rural Quinta Los Naranjos
A hundred-year-old stone-walled casa rural on the Camino de Tigalate in Villa de Mazo, on the south-eastern side of La Palma. It stands 600 metres above sea level on a smallholding whose orchards are dominated by orange trees, and it borders a footpath linking the coast with the mountains that runs on to the volcano route followed by the Transvulcania. Facing east, it looks over the Atlantic towards El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife with Teide.
The building, formerly known as Sitio Isidoro, is listed in the municipal planning framework as a dwelling of ethnographic value and was restored in keeping with its structure: stone and clay masonry, tea pine woodwork and a roof of Arabic tiles. It is laid out over two floors on a plot of 4,390 square metres, with a yard, two terraces, a cistern and its own parking, and guests may walk the cultivated part.
The ground floor holds a kitchen, a sitting room with a sofa bed and a bathroom; upstairs there is a bedroom with a reading corner. Wifi, a cot and bed linen are provided, pets are not accepted because three dogs roam the grounds, and smoking indoors is not allowed. Access is by a surfaced country lane less than a kilometre from the main road, and the airport lies fourteen kilometres away. The owners advise on walking routes, stargazing and visits to working farms.
