Centro de Interpretación - Las Loceras

A centre devoted to traditional Gomeran pottery, right in the middle of the village of El Cercado, in the Chipude area. On La Gomera the ware is still made as it was centuries ago, by hand and without a wheel, and that is precisely the craft explained here. The tour covers every stage, from gathering the raw clay to firing in wood burning kilns, using interactive panels, pieces at different stages and explanatory videos.

It explains how sap is tapped from the Canary palm and reduced down into miel de palma, a craft still practised on La Gomera. The visit combines a self-guided trail through the palm grove with a guided tour of the centre, and the product can be tasted.

Dark volcanic sand beach at the seaward end of the Vallehermoso valley, on the north coast of La Gomera. The Castillo del Mar stands beside it, along with the maritime park and its pools where you can swim sheltered from the swell. It is the municipality's access to the sea and one of the biggest coastal draws in the north of the island.
