Centro de Interpretación Casa de la Miel de Palma
Interpretation centre devoted to palm honey and guarapo, in the hamlet of Aldama in Alojera, Vallehermoso. It explains how sap is tapped from the Canary palm and reduced down into miel de palma, a craft still practised on La Gomera. The visit combines a self-guided trail through the palm grove with a guided tour of the centre, and the product can be tasted.

Casa de la Miel de Palma is an interpretation centre built around one of the most distinctive crafts on La Gomera. Guarapo is the sap drawn from the crown of the Canary palm, and miel de palma is what remains once that sap is boiled down until it thickens and darkens. The centre covers the guarapero's work, the tools, the timing of the tapping season and the care a palm needs if it is to keep producing. It stands in the hamlet of Aldama, in Alojera, within the municipality of Vallehermoso.
The visit has two parts: a self-guided trail down through the palm grove, where worked palms can be seen, and a guided round of the exhibition rooms. Palm honey can be tasted at the end; in Gomeran cooking it goes with desserts as readily as with meat. Alojera lies on the western side of the island and is reached by mountain road, with tight bends and narrow stretches. Allow generous time for the drive, and wear closed shoes for the trail.
