Mirador de La Tarta del Teide
A roadside viewpoint on the TF-21 climb to Teide, famous for the bank of coloured volcanic strata that looks like a layered cake.

The Mirador de La Tarta takes its name from the cut in the terrain beside the TF-21 road, where successive eruptions left superimposed layers of ash, lapilli and pumice in ochre, reddish and black tones that resemble the layers of a cake. It is a natural display of Teide's geology, easy to read at a glance, right on the ascent towards the National Park.
From the esplanade the view opens over the pine forest of the Corona Forestal and, on clear days, over the sea of clouds that covers the valley. It is a short but much photographed stop, at high altitude, where warm clothing is advisable because the air is cold and the weather changes quickly. It serves as a prelude to the lunar landscape of Las Cañadas.

The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
