César Manrique viewpoint over El Río and La Graciosa.

Islas24

The Mirador del Río sits in the north of Lanzarote, in the municipality of Haría, on a cliff of around 475 metres dropping sheer to the sea. It is one of the masterworks of César Manrique, built between 1971 and 1973 and almost invisible from outside, camouflaged under a skin of stone that merges with the rock. Through its large windows you look out over the El Río strait and the island of La Graciosa. The site rests on the former Batería del Río, a military position built in 1898 when the arrival of a US fleet was feared. It is reached by car along the road through the north of the island.
