Punta de Teno is the westernmost tip of Tenerife, a headland of volcanic rock battered by the sea in Buenavista del Norte. From here some of the island's finest views open up: the Los Gigantes cliffs on one side and the outline of La Gomera across the water on the other. It is crowned by a lighthouse dating from 1897, now automated, at the end of a path of dark stone. To protect the site, access by private car is restricted for much of the day, and you reach it on the shuttle bus that leaves from Buenavista del Norte. It is a place exposed to wind and sun, with almost no shade, so it is worth coming prepared.
Did you know? The Teno massif is a Special Protection Area for Birds, and its cliffs are the only breeding site on Tenerife of the osprey, a fish-eating raptor that is very rare in the Canary Islands.

The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
