Parque Cultural La Zarza y La Zarcita

The La Zarza y La Zarcita Cultural Park in the municipality of Garafía (La Palma) protects one of the most important rock-engraving sites in the Canary archipelago, set between the hamlets of La Mata and Llano Negro.
The La Zarza station holds 29 engraved panels notable for the extent of the carved surface and their complex, wide-ranging chronology, while La Zarcita adds another 18 smaller panels. The engravings were discovered in 1941 by A. Mata and E. Serra, a find that marked the beginning of rock-art research on the island. The park has a visitor centre, trails, free parking and toilets, and can be explored freely or with a guide for groups.
