Fuente de Los Roques lies in the municipality of Fuencaliente de La Palma, at the southern end of the island, in walking country. The official reference available for this sector is the sheet for stage 3 of the GR-131, which links Refugio de El Pilar with Fuencaliente and therefore ends in the same municipality. That sheet describes the route as a whole rather than any single point.
According to the sheet, the stage covers 23.7 kilometres with a descending profile and a climb early on, is rated as of high difficulty, and passes through the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park, the Los Volcanes de Teneguía Natural Monument and the Las Salinas de Fuencaliente Site of Scientific Interest. The same document warns of heat, wind and scarcity of water, and advises carrying ample water, food, mountain footwear and sun protection. All of this applies to the full stage.
