Playa San Cristóbal de Gran Canaria
An urban beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the fishing quarter of San Cristóbal, south of the city centre. Unlike Las Canteras, this is a neighbourhood beach, small and mainly used by locals, set within a district with a fishing tradition. The seafront here is made up of rock and small coves rather than one continuous stretch of sand, and the feel is that of a village inside the capital.
San Cristóbal is a coastal district in the south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with seafaring origins and character, and its beach works on that scale: it is an everyday space for the people who live there rather than a high traffic destination. The coast along this stretch alternates rock and small inlets, quite unlike the continuous sand of Las Canteras.
As on any beach in the archipelago, it is worth checking the state of the sea and whatever signage is in place before going in. Along a shoreline of rock and small coves the swell behaves less predictably than on an open sandy stretch, and getting into the water is not the same at every point in the district.

A natural rock pool lies right beside the beach, and the whole corner is ringed by fishermen's huts, with fishermen often at work there.
