Kontraola - Tenerife Surf School powered by Quiksilver and Roxy

Kontraola is a surf school in Playa de las Américas, in the municipality of Arona, right beside the stretch of coast where its sessions take place. It works with every level, from people who have never stood on a board to surfers refining their technique, in group, semi-private and private lessons. The instructors hold Canarian and Spanish surfing federation qualifications, and boards, wetsuits and rash vests are supplied.

Islas24

Félix Trujillo founded Kontraola fifteen years ago in the middle of Playa de las Américas, and the school remains a reference point for surf teaching in Arona. Each lesson runs for two hours: half an hour of theory and warm-up on land, then an hour and a half of practice in the sea, on the beach next to the school. Groups are capped at six adults per instructor, and a second instructor joins when a group grows larger.

Equipment covers a surfboard or bodyboard, a wetsuit, an optional helmet and booties, fins, a school rash vest and accident insurance. Children under thirteen do not share group lessons with adults and take private or semi-private sessions instead. Adapted surfing is taught by a specially qualified instructor. Winter brings larger and more powerful waves, while summer waves are gentler and suit newcomers. Booking is handled online.
