Franz Surf School
Franz Surf School is a surf school on Calle México in Playa de las Américas, on the southern coast of Tenerife. It runs small group lessons for two to six people, private group lessons for two to four, and one to one sessions, and it takes pupils from the age of eight upwards. Teaching is offered in Spanish, English, Italian and French, and board and wetsuit come with the lesson.
The school works along two clear tracks. Introductory courses are aimed at people who have never stood on a board and start with water safety, paddling and the pop up. Improvement courses are aimed at surfers with some experience who want to refine their technique and widen their range of manoeuvres. The instructors are qualified and the number of pupils per instructor is deliberately kept low.
Franz Surf School also rents out its own boards: short boards, long boards and soft boards, in fibreglass and epoxy, shaped in house. The stretch of coast at Playa de las Américas offers waves of varying difficulty and easy access, with shops and restaurants nearby. Lessons and rentals are booked in advance.
