Black Sand Diving La Palma

The base works in snorkelling and scuba diving on the western side of La Palma, with an approach built around small groups and close personal attention. Snorkelling outings need no previous experience and are led by a PADI qualified professional who reads the conditions of the day before anyone enters the water; the centre supplies mask, snorkel, freediving fins and an environmentally friendly neoprene suit, and lends a weight belt and technical guidance to anyone who wants to try skin diving. A marine ecologist supports the team, so guides can talk through the ecology of the reefs and the species that turn up on each outing. For anyone who has never breathed underwater, the PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme combines online theory, pool practice and one dive in the sea alongside an instructor.

Training follows the PADI ladder: Open Water Diver as the foundation course, Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water to build experience across different environments, then Rescue Diver and professional level training. The centre also puts together packages centred on buoyancy control and marine life recognition, with specialities such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist and Fish Identification. La Palma is a recognised UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the centre turns that into dive planning that avoids sensitive areas, strict buoyancy control and thorough briefings. Black Sand Diving belongs to the La Palma Biosfera community and to Green Fins, and it dives the volcanic reefs and lava formations along the island's coast.
