A viewpoint on the central plateau of El Hierro, inside the Frontera rural park, looking out over the escarpment of the El Golfo valley. From the rim you take in at a glance the huge landslide that dropped half the island's flank and left the valley at the foot of the wall. It is reached on a circular trail through a south-facing laurel and heath forest of tall tree heathers, ferns and lichen.
Mirador del volcán Lomo Negro is one of the viewpoints of the island of El Hierro, in the municipal district of La Frontera. From it one can make out the colourful layers of the steep walls that drop towards the sea. The different colours come from different types of eruption: the ochre rock was formed where magma came into contact with water. It is one of the natural balconies from which the volcanic origin of the island can be read.
Mirador de El Julan sits at 850 metres above sea level in the municipality of El Pinar, in the south-west of El Hierro, beside the HI-400 road. The island tourism portal describes it as opening onto panoramic views over the hillside, whose sheer gradient runs down towards the cliff that meets the Mar de Las Calmas. The volcanic field of La Restinga closes the view. There is parking at the spot.
