Degollada de las Palomas

sellViewpointsstorefrontIslas24partly_cloudy_day35°C

A viewpoint on the GC-150 road, in the municipality of Tejeda, in the mountainous interior of Gran Canaria. A degollada is a saddle, the low point between two heights, and it is exactly that shape in the terrain that opens up the view from the road. This is a roadside stop with no facilities, on a stretch of tight bends where it is best to pull over only in the marked lay-bys.

Islas24

Degollada de las Palomas sits on the GC-150, within the municipality of Tejeda, in the central mountain area of Gran Canaria. The name describes the place: a degollada is the low pass between two summits, and that dip in the ground is what lets you see across to the other side straight from the road.

This is a roadside viewpoint, with no buildings or services attached. Driving here is mountain driving, with tight bends and short sightlines, so the sensible thing is to park only where it is marked and never to stop on the carriageway. On windy days the saddle is an exposed spot, and in winter the highlands of Gran Canaria can be a good deal colder than the coast.
