Playa del Risco del Paso
A 6.5 kilometre stretch of white sand on the south coast of the Jandía isthmus, in Pájara. Part of the Sotavento system and a well established windsurfing and kitesurfing spot.
Playa del Risco del Paso is a white sand beach running for around 6.5 kilometres along the southern coast of the Jandía isthmus, in the municipality of Pájara. It belongs to the wider system of the Playas de Jandía, also known as Sotavento, and is best understood as part of that whole: from here a coastal stretch of roughly 20 kilometres between Costa Calma and Morro Jable can be walked. The shore rests on a coastal platform with lagoons and salt flats where endemic and migratory birds breed and feed, so keeping clear of those areas matters.
Wind defines the place, above all in summer, and explains its standing as a reference point for windsurfing and kitesurfing: schools and specialist shops operate in the area, along with sports equipment hire. Other services include parking, places to eat, showers and toilets. The same exposure to wind, combined with the sheer size of the beach, makes it sensible to assess sea conditions before going in, particularly for anyone with limited experience.
