Playa de La Concha de Lobos

sellBeachesstorefrontIslas24sunny26°C

La Concha, also known as La Calera, is the most visited beach on Islote de Lobos, the small island facing Corralejo off the northern tip of Fuerteventura. Its horseshoe shape shelters it from the prevailing wind, so the water usually stays flat and clear over a bed of fine white sand. It is a short walk from the landing jetty. The whole islet is a Natural Park and visitors need a permit arranged in advance.

Islas24

Islote de Lobos has been a Natural Park since 1982 and access to it is regulated. The permit is requested online in advance and the number of people on the islet at any one time is capped, split between a morning and an afternoon slot. Boats leave from the harbour of Corralejo and the crossing takes about a quarter of an hour. A level path runs from the small jetty to the beach in roughly eight minutes.

The sand is white and fine, and the seabed shelves gently, so bathing stays easy even when the swell picks up along the rest of the Fuerteventura coast. There are no shops on the islet, so bring your own water, food and shade. A circular trail of about seven kilometres links the Marrajo salt pans, the Punta Martiño lighthouse and El Puertito, the old fishermen's hamlet. Leaving the marked paths or taking away sand and stones is not allowed.
