Playa Corralejo

sellBeachesstorefrontIslas24sunny30°C

The town beach of Corralejo's old quarter, on the northern tip of Fuerteventura. Fine golden sand, a gently shelving bottom and water sheltered by the Muelle Chico breakwater, with the seafront promenade and its terraces a few steps behind. The Bocaina strait opens up in front: Isla de Lobos sits about five kilometres out and the Lanzarote coastline closes the horizon. The ferry terminals are four hundred metres away, and the dune park starts just south of town.

This strip of sand runs in front of Corralejo's old quarter, between Calle Marítima and Calle Colón, in the municipality of La Oliva. It is a chain of small coves of fine golden sand where the bottom shelves gently and the Muelle Chico breakwater keeps the water calm, so bathing stays easy even when the trade wind is working on the open north coast. The FV-1 runs straight into town, and surface car parks sit two to three hundred metres back, a walk of under five minutes to the shore.

The setting is that of a fishing town. The promenade links the coves with the square and with the terraces that serve fresh fish, and the ferry terminals for Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote lie about four hundred metres away. From the sand you look across the Bocaina strait, with Lobos some five kilometres out and the southern coast of Lanzarote about fourteen. Heading south, Avenida Grandes Playas (FV-104) reaches the Parque Natural de Corralejo in minutes: its boundary starts less than a kilometre from the old quarter, and the dune beaches run on for several kilometres.
