Finca la Canopea
Finca la Canopea is a permaculture project in Los Silos, in the north-west of Tenerife. Since 2014 its founders have been turning one hectare of almost desert land into an edible forest, planting more than 500 trees between 2014 and 2022. The farm grows hand-pollinated vanilla and offers guided visits to the plantation, permaculture workshops and stays in a small independent house for up to five people.

Finca la Canopea is a permaculture project in Los Silos founded by Pascal and Bénédicte, both born in Belgium. Since 2014 they have been working one hectare that was once a conventional orange grove and lay abandoned for years, aiming to recreate a rich and varied subtropical ecosystem that favours biodiversity and endemic species. The name refers to the canopy, the upper level of a forest where the tree crowns meet the sky.
The farm's edible forest holds plants, shrubs and trees grown for food, including a vanilla plantation: the plant flowers between April and July and every flower is pollinated by hand. Guided visits to the plantation run throughout the year, alongside permaculture workshops built around the five senses and activities of the farm's educational association. Guests can stay at Casita La Palmera, a two-bedroom house, and the farm also takes volunteers.

Buying property in the Canaries: what to check before you sign
Most of the bad stories about buying here are not about price. They come from three things the listing does not show: what class of land it sits on, what the registry says, and whether that house can legally be let to tourists. All three can be checked before you sign anything.
