Every December, Los Silos turns into a village of stories. The 31st International Storytelling Festival (Festival Internacional del Cuento) is dedicated to the washerwomen and brings together storytellers from the Canaries, mainland Spain, Portugal, Equatorial Guinea and Latin America: stories for babies, families and adults in halls, squares and courtyards, storytelling breakfasts at the Quiñones estate, stories at the old washing places, literary walks, workshops, exhibitions, book presentations and a book fair on calle Dr. Jordán. The guest writer is Trifonia Melibea Obono from Equatorial Guinea, and this edition pays tribute to Antonio Lorenzo Ramos. The festival formally starts on 16 November with preview activities, but most of the programme is packed into these four days. Most sessions are in Spanish.
The main festival runs from Friday 4 to Monday 7 December 2026 in the centre of Los Silos. On Friday 4 the book fair and exhibitions open at 16:00, the opening ceremony is at 18:00 in the courtyard of the former convent of San Sebastián, with a talk by Trifonia Melibea Obono, and the opening show “Voces de cristal, manos de agua” starts at 21:30 by the church of La Luz. On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 the programme starts at 9:00, and on Monday 7 at 10:00, with the flower and story parade at 20:00 and the closing storytellers' round at 22:00. Many sessions are free until full; others need an invitation or are for adults only, so check each session in the programme.
