Finca Encuentro
Finca Encuentro is a learning centre for applied sustainability on a plot of land above Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. A wide variety of organic vegetables is grown here along permaculture principles. The finca runs guided tours on permaculture, the circular economy and renewable energy, alongside workshops and courses, and packs seasonal boxes of its own organic vegetables.

Finca Encuentro is a small family business. In 2021 its founders, Patrick, David and Frank, bought a neglected piece of land above Puerto de la Cruz and turned it into a learning centre for applied sustainability, a place where ecological farming meets real life. A wide variety of organic vegetables is grown here along permaculture principles, with the stated aim of showing that a sustainable future is not only possible but already happening.
The current focus is on two projects: seasonal veggie boxes that bring freshly harvested produce from the field to people's homes, and personal guided tours of the finca that show where food comes from and how it is grown. Workshops and courses round out the programme, and the finca can also be rented. A community of long- and short-term volunteers and interns has supported the project from the start. Guided tours can be booked online.

Buying property in the Canaries: what to check before you sign
Most of the bad stories about buying here are not about price. They come from three things the listing does not show: what class of land it sits on, what the registry says, and whether that house can legally be let to tourists. All three can be checked before you sign anything.
