Casa San Ramón
Casa San Ramón is an authentic traditional casa majorera, more than 150 years old, in the municipality of Antigua in the heart of Fuerteventura. It keeps the features of the local vernacular architecture and has been refurbished while respecting the original structure. It now comprises a residential part, two apartments and a shared work area, with terraces and a pool looking east to the sea and south to the Gayría volcano.

The house stands in the heart of the island, in a rural setting equidistant from north and south, 20 kilometres from the airport and 14 from the beach of Pozo Negro. The property covers 2.5 hectares and holds an agroecological kitchen garden with seasonal crops and aromatic and medicinal herbs, whose produce is shared with guests and residents. Water is recycled daily for irrigation and a photovoltaic system covers much of the electricity used.
The accommodation consists of one studio and one apartment, both fully equipped and with a private terrace, plus a shared work area with a library devoted to art and culture. Gayría, of 55 square metres, has a porch for exclusive use and views over the caldera of Gayría; Mafasca, a loft-style studio of 45 square metres, faces the Llanos de Mafasca. The house also runs an artists' residency, and stays are requested through a form.

The Canarian festival year: what plays when
Two separate celebration calendars run side by side in the Canary Islands. One is put on by the neighbours and costs nothing; the other needs a ticket bought months ahead. Here is when each happens, what to book a room for early, and why autumn is the best season.

How to check that an excursion is legal, island by island
How to verify a Canary excursion is legal: tourism registry, official guide and insurance, plus each island's access rules that only legal operators meet.
