The district is presided over by the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Amparo, built in 1598, with a broad square in front of it.

The house sits in the El Amparo district, in the upper part of the Icod de los Vinos valley, on the northern side of Tenerife. It is rural accommodation, so stays are arranged in advance by booking. The settlement has kept its traditional features despite the changes around it and carries a Bien de Interés Cultural listing.
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Amparo was built in 1598 at the request of Pedro Méndez, known as Pedro de la Cruz, on land he owned. It went up on a small mound that later had to be levelled because of the large numbers of pilgrims arriving, and a broad square now stands in front of it. In the town centre of the municipality lies the Parque del Drago, with the thousand year old dragon tree, the most visited monument in Icod de los Vinos.
