Mirador de Porís de Candelaria
Clifftop viewpoint in Tijarafe looking down on Porís de Candelaria, a cluster of white houses set inside a natural cave some 50 metres high on the north-west coast of La Palma.

Porís de Candelaria is a tiny fishing settlement tucked inside a natural cave about 50 metres high, in the municipality of Tijarafe on the north-western coast of La Palma. Its white houses were built by local residents themselves as a summer refuge and are still lived in by families from the municipality. The viewpoint sits on the cliff above and takes in the whole settlement from over the top, before you go down. Beside the niche of the Virgen de Candelaria, which gives the spot its name, the opening in the cave roof cuts a silhouette against the sky that resembles the map of La Palma.
From above you get the scale of the place; seeing the cave from the inside means walking down to the houses, and there is also a waymarked path between Tijarafe and Porís de Candelaria recorded in the official trail network. The official tourism portal recommends sunset seen from inside the cave as the best moment of the day. The houses are inhabited, so the visit calls for a degree of discretion.

The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
