Mirador de los Poleos
A roadside viewpoint fitted out by the island council in the upper part of Santiago del Teide, in north west Tenerife, with a small parking area beside it. It looks out over the badlands left by the eruption of the Boca Cangrejo volcano, with Teide rising behind and the Atlantic away to the west. A short spur of path links it to the routes towards Boca Cangrejo and the Chinyero special nature reserve.

The Mirador de los Poleos stands on the high ground of Santiago del Teide, in the middle of the malpaís produced by the eruption of the Boca Cangrejo volcano. From the platform you look across the cone of Montaña de los Poleos and lava flows now covered in lichen and young pines, with Teide showing above the ridge on clear days. To the west the view drops all the way to the sea.
The viewpoint is reached by car on the road climbing out of Santiago del Teide, and there is a small parking area right at its edge. A spur of barely a hundred metres connects with the paths that cross the Chinyero special nature reserve, the volcano behind the last eruption on Tenerife, in 1909. Late in the day, with a sea of cloud sitting below, it is one of the most photographed spots in the district.

The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
