Mirador de Chipeque
High mountain viewpoint on the Teide road, famous for the sea of clouds that often fills the valley below.

Chipeque is one of those names Tenerife lovers say with affection: above 1,800 metres, on the road climbing to Teide, it is the perfect balcony to watch the sea of clouds spill over the Orotava valley while the volcano rises clean above it. At dusk the white clouds flush pink and orange, and on clear days La Palma floats to the west. All around, Canary pines add their dark green. Tip: bring a layer, it gets cool up here even when it is hot below.

It is reached from the TF-24, the road linking La Laguna with El Portillo, at about kilometre 26, where a turning leads down a track to the mirador itself. There is space to park at the end. It is reached along Calle la Montaña, in the upper part of the municipality, and its whole purpose is the panorama of the surrounding landscape, taken in from the high ground itself. A simple stop to add to an unhurried tour of Breña Baja.
