El Bufadero (Los Silos)

El Bufadero is a corner of the rocky coast of Los Silos where the swell has carved the volcanic rock and, with a heavy sea, the water rises and bursts forcefully between the walls. You reach it along the La Sibora coastal path, a wide, flat dirt track that starts next to El Puertito and the fin whale skeleton that presides over the recreational area. The walk is easy, suitable for bikes and pushchairs and almost free of traffic, though the ground by the sea is stony. Along the way you pass sea pools such as Los Chochos, Don Gabino and La Araña, ideal for a swim when the sea is calm. A good spot for photos and for feeling the Atlantic up close.
Did you know? A bufadero works like a piston: the sea rushes into a volcanic lava tube or cave, compresses the trapped air and forces it out under pressure through a crack.

Mirador de Izcagua stands in the El Pinar area of Puntagorda, in the north-west of La Palma, right beside the Mercadillo del Agricultor farmers' market. The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
