Ecomuseo de La Alcogida
Open-air ecomuseum with seven restored Majorero houses and traditional crafts.
The Ecomuseo de La Alcogida is an ethnographic museum in the hamlet of Tefía, on Fuerteventura, recreating a rural majorero village from the last century. It is made up of seven buildings of different sizes, restored in keeping with the island's traditional building techniques, and is regarded as one of the main references for traditional majorero architecture.
The houses keep the names of the families who lived in them, and their structure reflects the original economic standing of their inhabitants. Within the village, several working craftspeople demonstrate traditional trades in workshops for palm work, openwork embroidery (calado) and clay, so that the visit traces the island's rural history through its architecture and traditional way of life.
