Playa el Fraile

Playa el Fraile stretches at the foot of the imposing Teno cliff in Buenavista del Norte, with the Mirador de las Monjas looking down from above. It is a long black sand beach of more than 400 metres, little frequented and very natural in feel. Its microclimate shelters it from the northwest winds, though the sand is seasonal: it appears from June to November and in winter gives way to pebbles. The surf tends to be strong and there are rocks, so it is not an easy beach for swimming.
Did you know? A trail of barely 1.5 km links it with Playa de La Arena, passing several pools where locals take a sheltered dip.
