Unspoilt golden-sand cove with turquoise water in the Los Ajaches natural monument, next to Papagayo.
Playa de Mujeres is one of the coves within Los Ajaches, a protected natural monument in the south of the island. Golden sand, calm clear water and the turquoise colour that makes the Papagayo coves famous. There is no natural shade and no services, so bring water, an umbrella and food.
Access is along a dirt track from Playa Blanca, with a small entry point and parking fee (usually card only). Note your hire-car insurance: many policies exclude unpaved roads. Ideal for anyone after a quiet swim away from the resort crowds.
Did you know? Los Ajaches is the oldest area of Lanzarote, around eleven million years old; geologists believe its original volcanoes once rose above 4,000 metres, taller than today's Teide, though erosion has since worn them down below 400.

Playa de Puntalarga is a small bay on the coastline of Fuencaliente de La Palma, about a hundred metres long and twenty metres wide, with a mix of sand and callao pebbles. Small rocky outcrops shelter it from the sea and the swell stays moderate. A natural rock pool lies right beside the beach, and the whole corner is ringed by fishermen's huts, with fishermen often at work there.
