La Peñita
La Peñita is a stretch of coastline in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, lying at the foot of Avenida de las Playas between Playa Grande and Los Pocillos. Rather than a wide sandy beach, it is a string of small coves and natural pools open to the ocean, divided by rows of volcanic rock that give some shelter from the wind. A quiet spot for a swim right in the middle of the resort.

La Peñita covers a stretch of the Puerto del Carmen coastline in Tías, directly below Avenida de las Playas and between Playa Grande and Los Pocillos. Instead of one large beach, it is made up of several small bathing areas separated by rows of volcanic rock, forming natural pools that open onto the ocean. The same rocks create corners sheltered from the trade winds, which makes a real difference on windy days compared with more exposed parts of the coast.
Access is down the stairs that link the seafront promenade with the coves, and the bustle of the promenade stays just a few metres away. As this is a coast of volcanic rock and small coves, comfortable footwear is advisable, and it is worth checking the sea conditions before going into the water.

Playa Blanca (Puerto del Carmen)
Playa Blanca is one of the two main stretches of sand at Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, and it should not be mixed up with the town of the same name some twenty kilometres further south, in Yaiza. Fine golden sand, a south facing shore and usually gentle water, because the island itself screens the coast from the north easterly trade wind. Behind it runs Avenida de las Playas, the promenade that links the resort's beaches.
