The Teatro Cuyás hosts a family tragedy that has travelled far since its 1956 premiere at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Sweden: it won a Tony Award for best play and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and has also been staged on Broadway and in London's West End. Ernesto Caballero signs the version and the direction of this Astrea Teatro and Ágora production, led by Carlos Hipólito. Running time is one hour and forty minutes.
A house by the sea gathers the Tyrones for a single summer day. The father fears poverty, the mother sinks into an addiction, and the two sons, one a spendthrift and the other unwell, move between affection and reproach. Eugene O'Neill wrote an autobiographical play that dissects the wounds of his own family with rawness and compassion.
Alongside Carlos Hipólito as James Tyrone, the cast features Mapi Sagaseta, Alex Villazón and Nicolás Illoro. This is the second of the two performances announced by the Teatro Cuyás, on Saturday 16 January 2027 at 19.30. Tickets cost 23, 20, 15 and 12 euros.
