Rubicón Diving Lanzarote
Rubicón Diving Lanzarote is an SSI dive centre based at Marina Rubicón in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza. Playa Blanca is a marine reserve where commercial fishing is legally prohibited, and most of its dive sites lie between 15 and 20 metres, suitable for beginners and experienced divers alike. Boat access from the centre takes ten minutes at most.
The best known site is the Museo Atlántico, presented as the first underwater museum in Europe and the third in the world, with more than three hundred sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor at fourteen metres; dives leave from Marina Rubicón, about five minutes away by boat. Other named sites in the area include Pecio Nuevo, Las Coloradas, Punta Berrugo, Shark Point and Pechiguera.
The centre holds SSI ratings as a Diamond Center, Extended Range Center, Instructor Training Center, Blue Oceans Center and Mermaid Center. Its programme runs from a first try dive to recreational courses at every level up to instructor, along with professional training, technical diving, freediving and mermaiding. Diving off Puerto del Carmen goes deeper and suits advanced and technical courses, and a second base, The Mermaid School, is at the Hotel Costa Calero in Puerto Calero.
