Mercado Municipal San Sebastián
The municipal market of San Sebastián de La Gomera sits on Avenida de Colón in the island capital and is a small market for island produce. Among the most sought-after items are almogrote, the paste of cured cheese, pepper, garlic and oil that is a Gomeran signature, and palm honey. The town council presents it as the heart of local commerce, and after a recent refurbishment it has been widening its range of stalls.
San Sebastián de La Gomera is the island's gateway and its capital, and the municipal market plays a double role here: it supplies the neighbourhood and gives visitors the most direct access to Gomeran produce without intermediaries. The scale is modest, in keeping with an island of a little over twenty thousand inhabitants, and that closeness is precisely what makes it useful.
The star product is almogrote, made with cured Gomeran cheese, pepper, garlic and oil, alongside palm honey, drawn from the sap of the Canary palm and tied to a craft that survives above all in the north of the island. The town council has promoted the building as the axis of local commerce, with works to widen the offer and with occasional programmes of activities, tastings and craft displays inside the market itself.

The market's own website describes the building as semi-abandoned, with a single fruit stall still working out of the 18 it once housed.
