Mirador Lomada del Camello
A viewpoint at around 620 metres above San Sebastián de La Gomera, on the road that leaves the capital towards the south of the island. From the platform you look over much of the town and its harbour, the ravine dropping to the sea and, on the horizon, the outline of Teide on Tenerife. There is parking and a recreation area at the viewpoint itself. The clearest panoramas come on days without calima haze.
La Lomada del Camello is a long ridge south of San Sebastián de La Gomera, and the viewpoint sits on its edge at around 620 metres above the sea. The view takes in the capital, the bay and the harbour where the ferries to Tenerife berth, along with the ravine running down to the coast. The island tourist board singles it out as the best place on La Gomera to see Teide, which stands out whole on the far side of the channel. On clear days the volcano is sharply drawn, and there is usually less haze early in the day.
Access is easy, on the road linking San Sebastián with the south of La Gomera, and the viewpoint has its own parking and a recreation area. The platform is paved and requires no walking at all, which makes it convenient for a short stop. Wind blows hard along the ridge, so hats and tripods need holding down. In winter the summit of Tenerife is under snow, and that contrast between sea, dry ridge and white volcano is the picture people come for.
