Mirador de Manaderos
A roadside balcony above the ravine that drops from the summits towards San Sebastián de La Gomera, right beside the GM-1 at the mouth of the Aguajilva tunnels, around kilometre 7.5. From the railing four reservoirs line up along the valley floor (Llano de la Villa, Chejelipes, Izcagüe and Palacios), with the hamlets of Lomito Fragoso, Honduras and Chejelipes on the slopes. There is no car park of its own: you pull into the lay-by and walk a minute.
The viewpoint sits right against the GM-1, the road that joins San Sebastián de La Gomera with the Hermigua valley, exactly where the carriageway enters the Aguajilva tunnels. It has no car park of its own: you leave the car in the paved lay-by at the edge of the road and a short stretch of pavement leads to the railing, with no climb and no path to follow. The platform looks out from more than four hundred metres above sea level, so the panorama opens up without any walking.
Below, the Barranco de la Villa cuts down towards the island capital, and four reservoirs are strung along its bed: Llano de la Villa, Chejelipes, Izcagüe and Palacios. That chain of dams carries much of La Gomera's water supply and explains the green on the valley floor. On the slopes you can pick out the hamlets of Lomito Fragoso, Honduras and Chejelipes with their terraced plots; further back, towards the summit, the roques cut into the horizon, and the Parque Natural de Majona begins to the north east.
