Mirador de la Curva del Queso
A roadside viewpoint on one of the wide bends of the GM-1, between the Yorima and Arure tunnels, on the descent into Valle Gran Rey. The semicircular platform is shaped like a round cheese, which is where the name comes from. From the railing the whole valley opens up: terraced fields, palm groves and the road zigzagging down to La Calera and the shore. It sits roughly 550 metres above the sea.

The viewpoint leans out over Valle Gran Rey from the upper stretch of the GM-1, at the western end of La Gomera. It opened in 2015, and its curved platform, cantilevered over the slope, was built to echo the outline of a cut round of cheese. From it you look down on the valley floor with its terraces and palms, the houses of La Calera and the coastline where the road finally ends.
You reach it by car on the GM-1 itself, and there is room to pull in beside the bend, though joining and leaving the road needs care because traffic arrives with little warning. There are no facilities on site. After dark the spot is one of those recommended on the island for looking at the sky, since it stands above the lights of the valley.

Mirador de Izcagua
Mirador de Izcagua stands in the El Pinar area of Puntagorda, in the north-west of La Palma, right beside the Mercadillo del Agricultor farmers' market. The website of the La Palma Biosphere Reserve presents it as a set of floating viewpoints: walkways edged with glass railings that reach out over the ravine and give a sensation of flight. It is reached by car from the village centre heading north, along the camino del Pinar.
