Ventana del Nublo

sellHiking routesstorefrontIslas24sunny33°C

The Ventana del Nublo is a natural rock formation shaped like a window opened in the stone, in the central massif of Gran Canaria. Its interest lies in what it frames: through it you see the Roque Nublo and, on clear days, Mount Teide across the sea. It sits inside the Parque Rural del Nublo, and the usual route to reach it starts from the Los Llanos de la Pez recreation area, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

Islas24

The Ventana del Nublo has become one of the most sought-after spots in the Gran Canaria highlands precisely for the framing it offers. The natural gap in the rock face works as a frame for the Roque Nublo, the eighty-metre monolith that rises some 1,800 metres above sea level in the centre of the island and was a place of worship for the old Canarians.

The whole setting is protected: the area was declared a protected natural space in 1987 and a rural park seven years later. The most common approach leaves from the Los Llanos de la Pez recreation area and runs along mountain tracks and paths. Like the rest of the massif, this is island high country, with fast weather changes and frequent cloud, so it is worth checking the forecast and carrying warm clothing even when it is hot on the coast.
