Parque Rural de Doramas
Protected laurel forest and ravines in northern Gran Canaria, with marked hiking trails and regular birdwatching.
Parque Rural de Doramas covers the midlands of northern Gran Canaria, around Moya and the neighbouring municipalities. This is mountain country: remnants of laurel forest, steep ravines and volcanic cones, in one of the greenest parts of the island. Walkers come for the trail network, and birdwatchers treat it as a standing observation spot.
Access is from Camino Lomo las Vacas and is free. From there the paths link up with Los Tilos de Moya and with the recreational areas of the district, so allow several hours if you want to string sections together. Wear proper walking shoes, since the ground is uneven, and expect the northern slope to sit under cloud on many mornings.
