Caldera de Los Marteles

Caldera de Los Marteles is a volcanic crater on the summit ridge of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Valsequillo. What sets it apart is the floor: a flat, traditionally farmed surface that you take in whole from the rim, without walking down. Google Maps describes it as a natural park in a volcanic setting, with many hiking routes and wide panoramic views.
The rim sits right by the road, so it works as a quick stop on the way up to the summit and equally as a starting point for a walk. Access is free and open 24 hours. Tourist information is handled by Valsequillo town hall, which has its own phone line and website. Weather up here turns fast, and cloud can hide the crater completely.
