Islas24

The Barranco de Guayadeque is a valley of some fifteen kilometres in southeast Gran Canaria, shared by the municipalities of Agüimes and Ingenio. It is a designated Natural Monument, known for its steep slopes, wild landscape and distinctive plant life.

The ravine is famous for its cave homes, made from natural caverns in the volcanic rock. Many now serve as rural accommodation or house restaurants carved into the rock. Along the road there is also a chapel and a visitor centre that explains the customs of the original pre-Hispanic inhabitants.

For walkers there are trekking routes, including a seven-kilometre track that climbs up to the Los Marteles volcanic caldera.
