Playa de Pozo Izquierdo
Windy southeast beach, host of world windsurfing championships.
Pozo Izquierdo, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, is one of the great landmarks of world windsurfing and hosts international-circuit events thanks to its strong, constant trade winds. It is a beach of dark sand and pebbles, with usually choppy sea. Precisely because of that wind and swell it is not the best choice for a relaxed swim or for families with small children, but it is a spectacle for watching the athletes in action.
Did you know? Pozo Izquierdo has hosted the Gran Canaria Windsurf World Cup since the late 1980s, one of the oldest and most reliable events on the PWA tour. Champions such as Björn Dunkerbeck and sisters Daida and Iballa Ruano rose to fame here.

Playa de Puntalarga is a small bay on the coastline of Fuencaliente de La Palma, about a hundred metres long and twenty metres wide, with a mix of sand and callao pebbles. Small rocky outcrops shelter it from the sea and the swell stays moderate. A natural rock pool lies right beside the beach, and the whole corner is ringed by fishermen's huts, with fishermen often at work there.
