Playa de Los Cristianos

Playa de Los Cristianos is the urban beach of the old fishing town of the same name, in the municipality of Arona, southern Tenerife. It stretches beside the port, in a sheltered bay that gathers all the ingredients of a family beach: fine golden sand, calm waters and a lively coastal promenade a few steps from bars, shops and services. Its location in the south of the island, one of the sunniest areas with a stable climate all year round, makes it a comfortable bathing destination in any season.

It is one of the busiest beaches in the district, about 900 metres long with an average width of around 40 metres. It is worth bearing in mind that it is an artificial beach: the fine golden sand that covers it was brought in to create and maintain this stretch, which explains its soft texture, pleasant for walking barefoot along the shore.

Calm waters and a sheltered setting

The nearby port and the jetties act as a natural barrier against the swell, creating a calm, shallow stretch of water in the bathing area. This makes it especially suitable for families with children and for those who prefer calm bathing, without the strong currents typical of the more exposed beaches in the north of the island. Even so, you should always respect the markers and the instructions of the rescue service, as it shares space with port activity and the coming and going of boats.

Services and facilities

As a fully urban beach, it has a complete range of facilities designed for the visitor. It is surrounded by the town of Los Cristianos, with a wide choice of dining, shops and parking areas nearby.

  • Lifeguards: surveillance service during daylight hours.

  • Showers and toilets: distributed along the beach.

  • Sunbeds and parasols: a rental area for loungers and parasols.

  • Accessibility: ramps, wooden walkways over the sand and, in high season, amphibious chairs and an assisted-bathing service, placing it among the adapted beaches of southern Tenerife.

  • Cleaning: bins and waste collection along the whole beachfront.

Blue Flag

It is worth clarifying a point that often causes confusion: although Playa de Los Cristianos held the Blue Flag in previous seasons, in 2026 it was not awarded this distinction, linked to specific readings detected in the water-quality samples. Arona Town Council itself has noted that the area remains suitable for bathing. To know the current status each season, the most reliable thing is to check the official sources, as the list of flags is reviewed every year.

How to get there and surroundings

The beach is next to the port of Los Cristianos, the departure point for ferries to La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, and very well connected by road and public transport with the rest of the south of the island. The promenade connects this beach with neighbouring Playa de Las Vistas, so you can combine both in a single day. For verified tourist information you can check the official portal of Tenerife Tourism or the website of the Arona Town Council.
