Playa de La Garita
A golden-sand town beach in Telde, on the east coast of Gran Canaria, much loved by locals and sheltered in a calm bay.

Playa de La Garita opens onto the shoreline of Telde, Gran Canaria's second city, in a seafaring neighbourhood on the east coast. Its golden sand and generally calm waters make it one of the favourite beaches of Gran Canarians, a place for everyday bathing rather than a tourist postcard, with a promenade, terraces and the neighbourhood feel that only beaches where people live all year round possess.
Framed by low cliffs and looking out onto the open Atlantic, it is a fine spot to sense the local pulse of an island that reaches far beyond the touristy south. Telde, one of the oldest towns in the archipelago, preserves an old quarter of stately houses and churches well worth a visit before or after a swim, combining sea, culture and Canary flavour in a single day.

Small rocky outcrops shelter it from the sea and the swell stays moderate. A natural rock pool lies right beside the beach, and the whole corner is ringed by fishermen's huts, with fishermen often at work there.
