Caletón Blanco

Caletón Blanco, next to Órzola in the north of the island, is a cluster of small natural pools of crystal-clear water between black lava flows and white sand. The colour contrast is its main draw, and the rock-sheltered pools are ideal for swimming with children.
It depends heavily on the tide: the pools are safest and most comfortable at low or mid tide. There is no natural shade and no services, so bring water, food, an umbrella and water shoes, because the basaltic lava is sharp. A natural, quiet corner, quite different from the urban beaches of the south.
Did you know? Its lava comes from the nearby Volcán de la Corona, which thousands of years ago covered this coast with the Malpaís de la Corona lava field. That basaltic black is exactly what makes the sand's white stand out so vividly.
